After the face-to-face interview, there are some important things to keep in mind, which brings us to:

Tip #10: Remember the Thank You Notes

Our recommendation is to have the thank you notes in the mail within two hours of leaving the interview. If you time this right, the practice will receive the thank you note the very next day. To do this, we suggest you buy your thank you notes prior to going to the interview. While this may seem a bit extreme, your promptness will help set you apart from every other candidate the practice is meeting with and could just be the deciding factor of whether you receive an offer or a turn-down.

Two or three days after the interview, give the practice a call and let them know you’re still interested in the opportunity unless they have given you a specific time frame of when they will be back in touch. While it is important to show your interest, you don’t want to seem overbearing. So, if the hiring doctor says they will call you in a week, wait a week and then give them a call to let them know you’re still interested in the opportunity.

Bonus Tip: Don’t be Afraid to Negotiate

When reviewing a contract, simply keep in mind the things that are most important to you and focus on those key things during the contract negotiation. Keep in mind that if you’re comparing offers with your colleagues, most offers will have similarities, but every offer and opportunity is unique. If you’re working with a recruiter, let them know what you’re looking for before and after the interview because they can act as an ambassador for you. They can also let you know if you’ve received a competitive offer based on location, type of practice, and other variables.
